Bell Biv Devoe X The Roots!

Posted by Sonny James under Artists, New York, Philly, Videos

The Roots have a way of recapturing the original sound of any record. It amazes me considering most artists that made them, can’t do it and disappoint fans around the world when they perform different versions of classic songs on reunion tours. Speaking of reunions, BBD reunited last night on Jimmy Fallon. Check out the classics performed below.

Dear God 2.0 Video

Posted by Sonny James under Artists, Philly, Videos

On July 4th, I had the pleasure of seeing The Roots rip it down at The Art Museum for the Welcome America Festival. Classic Philly experience right there. I remember seeing James Brown there, Tina Marie, The Gap Band, Jay-Z, and even The Fresh Prince with Jazzy Jeff performing Summertime for over 1 million people during Live 8. Some of the most historical music related events took place there. For the second year in a row, The Roots took the stage and invited the legendary Chuck Brown from DC and Chrisette Michelle to make things even more epic. I tried to find footage on youtube but I just couldn’t seem to come across any. For now here’s a clip of The Roots’ new video, Dear God 2.0 from the latest album, How I Got Over which is bananas. Support the home team. The rest of the world does. #Philly

How Low Live…

Posted by Sonny James under Artists, DJs, Videos

Sup y’all.

I promised to blog more this year. With being so busy in my real life, often my virtual life falls by the way-side. Thanks to all of you who have been checking out, downloading, and spreading the word about our 10 Years of Illvibe Mixtape. It is a trip down memory lane. A special shout out needs to be extended to Lee Jones for including the project as the 100th mix on the Sundae iPhone app. That was a big deal so thanks homie! Soon come the new projects.

One love to Fly Girrl, Laiya, and Afrodjiak for an awesome event the other night.  If you missed it, Black Thought from the Legendary Roots, sat down and opened up totally, discussing everything from how he got his start working underage at a pizza shop, to the untimely murder of both of his parents, to his lack of concern about The Roots’ music appearing on commercial radio. Very inspiring night and interview. Hopefully there will be a clip online sooner than later so I can share it with all of you who couldn’t be there.

Speaking of The Roots, I just found this clip of them performing with Ludacris on Jimmy Fallon. “How Low” is my ish right now and has been for months. Luda is one of the main artists right now that consistently causes me to pay attention to the south.
