How Low Live…

Posted by Sonny James under Artists, DJs, Videos

Sup y’all.

I promised to blog more this year. With being so busy in my real life, often my virtual life falls by the way-side. Thanks to all of you who have been checking out, downloading, and spreading the word about our 10 Years of Illvibe Mixtape. It is a trip down memory lane. A special shout out needs to be extended to Lee Jones for including the project as the 100th mix on the Sundae iPhone app. That was a big deal so thanks homie! Soon come the new projects.

One love to Fly Girrl, Laiya, and Afrodjiak for an awesome event the other night.  If you missed it, Black Thought from the Legendary Roots, sat down and opened up totally, discussing everything from how he got his start working underage at a pizza shop, to the untimely murder of both of his parents, to his lack of concern about The Roots’ music appearing on commercial radio. Very inspiring night and interview. Hopefully there will be a clip online sooner than later so I can share it with all of you who couldn’t be there.

Speaking of The Roots, I just found this clip of them performing with Ludacris on Jimmy Fallon. “How Low” is my ish right now and has been for months. Luda is one of the main artists right now that consistently causes me to pay attention to the south.

The BOOM! This Friday!

Posted by Sonny James under Philly, Videos

This past couple of days in Philly has been a lot of fun.  Walnut Room felt real good and we kept the vibe going til the very end of the party.  Mark De Clive Lowe and Lady Alma tore things down at The Sundae Party. It was great to see them rock together since I hadn’t seen either one of them perform in years. Last night Hezekiah and I opened for John Forte who was released from a Federal Prison 7 months ago after serving a portion of his 14 year sentence. For any of you who can’t remember why that name sounds so familar, John was a part of the Refugee Camp and helped out with the Fugees The Score album which sold over 18 million copies. He has a new project which just came out recently. His performance was acoustic and really ill. He still sounds just as good as he did years ago if not better. (To peep one of John’s latest interviews, click here.)

This Friday, The BODYROCK returns to the Arts Garage after a hiatus for a few months. I will be in the house for the later portion of the night since I’ll be at Fluid earlier DJing with Joey Blanco and DJ Aktive (SMC) for my man Bunmi’s birthday party. Bunmi has been the homie for years and was instrumental in producing The Duplex party we did at the Arts Garage a couple years back when the venue first opened. We’ll be going across the board musically all night and it’s gonna be a stone groove so don’t miss it.

Finally, did y’all know Swizz Beats is an ill mixed media artist?!?!?  I just found this out.  Word to all the other multi-talented folks out there.  I actually collect art from musicians. Gotta get my dollas up for one of his pieces.
