I just want to say Happy New Year in advance to all of you who are readers of this blog and supporters of what me and Illvibe Collective are doing. Earlier today, I was reflecting on my life. 10 years ago I was working at an insurance company, hating every minute of it, wearing locs and trying desperately to get people to listen to me DJ regularly. Clearly a lot has changed since then. Change is the one thing that is inevitable and I’ve always embraced it. From working with Schoolz of Thought, Grand Agent, J-Live, Bahamadia, Shape of Broad Minds, Hezekiah, Camp Lo, Reef, the Arrakis Records crew and more and in the process, traveling to many continents several times a year to DJ, to splitting my time between Philly and New York, to changing roommates about 7 times, to being married then divorced and having a handsome son in meantime, I’ve lived my life at 100mph with no intentions on slowing down for the next decade. In a lot of ways, I feel like I’m just getting started. Sounds cliche but really. I have so much I want to accomplish in the next 10 years and I hope to have you all apart of it. Thank you all so much for reading my rants on here and www.djstatikmusic.com when that was updated regularly; Plus tolerating and sometimes enjoying all the crap I talk on twitter and facebook. I try to keep y’all in the loop without spoiling your day with all the drama that walks in and out of my life now and then. I love and appreciate y’all.
Tonight, we close out a decade @ The Walnut Room. Me and Skeme Richards are providing the groove on two floors. I can’t wait to bring in the new year/decade with all of the regulars, my friends, and my family. Can’t think of a better way to make it happen. I’m thankful that I’m playing in Philly tonight for that reason alone.
Man, this past Saturday at Walnut Room was bananas. The room was filled with mad familiar faces, some of which, used to rock with us at The BODYROCK religiously. And a ton of people on the street all night trying to get in the door. Sorry if you didn’t make it in the door. Stop being fashionably late maybe?
So much to be thankful this year. From holding down things nationally with Mr. Lif on the I Heard It Today Tour to rockin it weekly over at The Walnut Room to making an acting debut in a major film coming next year, I’ve been a very busy man. With less sleep than ever and a full voicemail, it’s been a bit overwhelming but I wouldn’t change it. Thank you to everyone who has been supportive and been apart of the machine this year. I’m hoping to build with more of y’all in Philly and New York in 2010 and so on.
To bring in the new year, we’re going to have a very special champagne filled evening at the Walnut Room. Me and the homie DJ Skeme Richards are doing the 2 floor NYE celebration on Thursday night. Admission is $20 and we’re expecting a full house early. I can’t wait to see y’all out to end off this year proper.
