How Low Live…

Posted by Sonny James under Artists, DJs, Videos

Sup y’all.

I promised to blog more this year. With being so busy in my real life, often my virtual life falls by the way-side. Thanks to all of you who have been checking out, downloading, and spreading the word about our 10 Years of Illvibe Mixtape. It is a trip down memory lane. A special shout out needs to be extended to Lee Jones for including the project as the 100th mix on the Sundae iPhone app. That was a big deal so thanks homie! Soon come the new projects.

One love to Fly Girrl, Laiya, and Afrodjiak for an awesome event the other night.  If you missed it, Black Thought from the Legendary Roots, sat down and opened up totally, discussing everything from how he got his start working underage at a pizza shop, to the untimely murder of both of his parents, to his lack of concern about The Roots’ music appearing on commercial radio. Very inspiring night and interview. Hopefully there will be a clip online sooner than later so I can share it with all of you who couldn’t be there.

Speaking of The Roots, I just found this clip of them performing with Ludacris on Jimmy Fallon. “How Low” is my ish right now and has been for months. Luda is one of the main artists right now that consistently causes me to pay attention to the south.

GREEN ROOM PICS AND VIDEO

Posted by Sonny James under Artists, Philly, Videos

Wednesday night was a classic night in Philly.  So many friends and family came out to Heineken Green Room and witnessed Black Thought, Meek Millz, Dice Raw, Porn, Hezekiah, TuPhace, DJ No Phrillz, myself and more show y’all how it’s done. It was one of my favorite memories of playing Silk City. So epic. To those of you in the area that didn’t gain access, there will be more Heineken events next year for you to enjoy. Stay tuned. In the meantime, here are some pics and video courtesy of Two One Five Magazine and Freekugly Lifestyle Group.

In other news, the homie, DJ Ultraviolet was recently interviewed on Phrequency.com and gave her top ten list of Philly’s Movers and Shakers of 2009.  Among, Stacey Flygirrl Wilson, DJ Skeme Richards, DJ Sammy Slice, and others, I moseyed my way onto the list. Check out the full article Here! And shout out to UV for thinking of me and the work I’m putting in.

I hear Philly is expecting a hellafied snow storm this weekend so if you’re out and about, bundle up! We plan to rock and shock at the Walnut Room tomorrow night for our regular Saturday get down. Always mad fun. If anything changes due to weather, I’ll update you here and on Twitter.

Thanks for reading.

And here’s a jam off of Black Thought’s unreleased Masterpiece Theatre album. It’s a rewrite of the classic Slick Rick joint, Mona Lisa. This dude is such a problem on the microphone.

A Cypher is a Cypher

Posted by Sonny James under Artists, Videos

Since I was working all of last night in the studio, I missed the BET Awards. I probably wouldn’t have been watching them anyway. But while I was finishing up work in the lab, I did read a bunch of feedback on the cyphers they aired during the show featuring Mos Def, Eminem, Black Thought, Joe Budden, Nicki Minaj and more.  Some verses blew me away. Some didn’t. I’ll let you be the judge. This reminds me how important lyrics still are in this game of fashion and trendiness.
