Tomorrow night, we welcome DJ Supreme from Seattle to The Walnut Room. He’s in town for the Hot Peas & Butta Tour with DJ Skeme Richards. He’s gonna rock out with us for another night of straight up fun. No better way to put it so there it is. Get there early as we fill to capacity fairly early almost every Saturday.
Also, I have to say Happy Birthday to my homeboy Todd aka Caliph-Now. If you’re going to be at his private birthday party tonight, I’ll most likely see you in the house. I’m looking forward to it. Aiight y’all. Enjoy the weekend and stay cool out there.
My good friend and colleague Randy Flash passed away yesterday. He was in a coma for the past few days after being wounded by a random gunshot wound in North Philly. Words can’t express how good of a dude Randy was. He put me onto some of the illest records and encouraged me as a DJ since I was a kid. I remember him smiling and going crazy to new records and telling me to keep up the good work. He would tell me stories about the clubs I wasn’t old enough to get into and I used to just fantasize about how much fun it was at The Shelter and other spots. People all over are missing you bro. Thank you for what you’ve contributed to me and the music community here. RIP.
Thank you to everyone who has downloaded, streamed, and shared the Illvibe Blends album. Great feedback so far and we thank you all for checking it. There are more coming and we’ll be soon leaking a video mix of the album.
A remix by DJ Lil’ Dave from the Illvibe Blends Compilation released July 13, 2010. For more information and free download, please visit http://www.illvibe.bandcamp.com
Tonight, if you’re in Philadelphia, be sure to check out the homie DJ Phsh at Dutty Chutney at Fluid. It’s one of my favorite parties in the city featuring the illest dancehall reggae, bhangra, hip-hop, and r&b. A true multicultural soiree. I hope you checked the blog yesterday and got your tix for the Heineken Inspire event. it’s gonna be poppin off.
Also come and get down with me at The Walnut Room as well. We’ve been rocking weekly for a year and a half and the energy is always bananas. Special guests will be rocking with me and in my place for the next few weeks. More details coming soon so stay tuned.
Finally, my heart goes out to my long time friend and colleague, DJ Randy Flash who was caught in the crossfire in North Philly this week. A fuggin idiot, shooting on the street, hit 7 people including Randy. I hear he’s in critical condition and in a coma in the hospital. Please keep him in your thoughts and say a prayer for his recovery. If you know Randy, you know he’s one of the nicest dudes in the music scene in Philly or elsewhere. I hope he pulls through like a warrior.
If you missed the live mix from Kraftwork I recently posted, feel free to revisit. Tonight I’ll be holding things down again. I’ll only be around a couple more Thursdays before I go on tour so I’d love to see your faces in the place.
Saturday afternoon, join DJ Jazzy Jeff, Marsha Ambrosius, J. Cole, and Musiq Soulchild at the TLA for the Heinken Inspire Event. The joint is free and there is sure to be a bunch of giveaways and fun. The last one with Ludacris and Kevin Hart was insane so don’t miss this one. You may have to print your own tickets though. Be prepared to do so. See you in the crowd.
Then come check me out at The Walnut Room at 10pm for some more tomfoolery.
