*Sigh* I feel like a zombie as I type this.  Quite a week for the kid and I have so much more to do. One love to the Soul Controllers for having me and Lil’ Dave at their 18th Anniversary Party at Tabaq on Tuesday night in DC. So great to see my friends I haven’t seen in a minute. My cousin Debbie who I hadn’t seen in nearly 20 years even came out.  Crazy! Shout out to everyone who came out to APT on Wednesday as well.  Philly was up in there that night.  Other than that, it was a strange night.  I think some of the fashion week crowd stunk up the place during the earlier portion of the party.  Big up to Grand Puba, John Forte, Phillee Blunt, Mr. Len and others who were hanging while me & Akalepse got it together.

Tonight, I return to Z-Bar.  I spin house, broken, b-more, and some hip-hop too.  Always a good time when I rock there.  Come through if you’re in Philly. And of course tomorrow, it’s back to the Walnut Room.  Last week Lady Alma and company kilt it. Tomorrow, business as usual.

Ye Julius Ceasar

And off topic, I had to share this site.  It has some hilarious takes on Kanye’s VMA stunt the other night. I thought his interruption lacked taste and all but I don’t believe it was inexcusable so please stop it with the Kanye attacks.  He made a big mistake and apologized for it.  It’s a pain to go on Twitter and see people re-posting comments from idiots calling him racial slurs and saying he needs to be lynched with the other monkeys that don’t stay in line, etc.  How sadly typical that a black celebrity could be appreciated by such a wide audience but then persecuted and called a “coon” among other hideous and offensive names as soon as he does something folks disagree with.  No need to burn celebrities at the stake for not living up to our standards.  All of us are capable of making moves that others would disagree with. The only difference is, most of us “couch critics” will never do it in front of more than 100 people at any point in life. Now with that said, I gotta get up, get to the gym and get myself back in shape.  Afterall, critics are watching…

Phun in Philly

Outdoors

I’m glad there have been things to do in Philly lately.  I checked out Sammy Slice at the Walnut Room for the first time the other night and he killed it.  A great mix of tunes for the dancers and WR regulars to get down to.  Good Sunday jumpoff.  Shout out to Anwar who held down the mic all night too.  Yesterday I was in a shoot for a new video by Anu Sun which is being directed by Hezekiah.  The ideas Hez comes up with for these videos are outrageous.  He’s going to kill it with the proper budget.  Last night, Back 2 Basics was dope as usual.  King Britt, Dozia, and Ron Clark were in the pocket with the house classics and funk tunes.  Great to hear some joints I hadn’t heard in a longass time.  Speaking of which, We celebrate Doz’s birthday next Thursday at Z-Bar.  Dozia, King Britt, Rich Medina, and me will be holding down the turntables all night.  Be prepared to dance hard.  The address and other info is in my schedule  so take a peek.

My Dyno

Aside from nearly breaking my neck on my bike the other day, things have been good.  Teaching my kid how to do tricks after not riding a bike like this for years is risky business.  So risky that my kid had to take a deep breath and tell me “That was really a close call.” Lol I’m really good though, but busy as I’m currently wrapping up remixes for Hollyweerd and Killer Mike. More joints to come in the very near future.  More mixtapes too.  I just need to decide which joints I want to give away next. Stay wit me. More tings are gwan.

HISTORY

I’ve been in and out of the house all day but I haven’t been able to get the sense of accomplishment and progress off of my heart. I don’t know if I can really state how I feel about Barack’s inauguration in a way that hasn’t been overstated all day long via Twitter, Facebook/CNN Chat, Myspace and whatever else has up to the minute updating capability. I will say that I am for the first time, really PROUD to be American. And of course I’m not sitting here thinking President Obama is Santi Clause and gonna travel around giving us all gifts in the ghetto or that Gas Prices will suddenly go down to 50¢ per gallon. But it is truly inspiring to see the good guy and girl win.  For a while I began feeling like many games in this country are only to be played by people who can play dirty and keep their own selfish values at the forefront of their intentions. This doesn’t seem to be the case at all here.  I’m looking forward to some of the progress we’ll be able to make in the months and years to come after this historical day.  I’m on daddy duty so unfortunately, I’m not out at any Inauguration Balls tonight in DC. I read about all the performances though on Twitter mobile so I feel like I saw it.

I did, however, see Mall Cop with my kid which was pretty good.  And I don’t think there was one swear in the whole movie. Sweet.

I’m in the midst of posting some tour dates for the Spring with Mr. Lif and crew promoting the new album “I Heard It Today.” Check the Schedule for the full details.  And check out Lif’s new song simply entitled Obama below.

Check y’all in a minute.

Barack It, Don’t Stop It!

Posted by Sonny James under Dropping Science, Travel

This week, while you prepare to head to the polls to vote in Barack, also make sure do a couple of other things as well. One, pick up the Q-Tip Renaissance album tomorrow. Two, cop the new Mr. Lif single featuring me, Statik aka Mr. Sonny James on the hook. It’s called Welcome To The World and is the 3rd single from the “I Heard It Today” LP being released on Inauguration Day. And Last, come out to check Mr. Lif, Metro, and myself in your city as we’re rocking dates throughout Election Week.

Dates:

Monday, Nov. 3 – Heirloom Arts Theatre
155 Main Street, Danbury, Connecticut

Tuesday, Nov. 4 – Knitting Factory
74 Leonard Street, New York, New York

Wednesday, Nov. 5 – Rock and Roll Hotel
1353 H Street Northeast, Washington DC, Washington DC

Thursday, Nov. 6 – Bedrock Baltimore
401 West Baltimore Ave., Baltimore, Maryland 21201

One Love to Cosmo Baker for being the Vet he is and killing it at The BODYROCK on Halloween. We miss hearing him rock regularly at the Remedy, etc. He’s a monster…

Finally, is there a need to speak on how important this election is to us all?
Folks, please do what makes sense at the Polls. 8 years of the government considering no interest of the people is enough, don’t you think. There has to be a change in the White House. Responsibility needs to be had and progressive action taken in order to make things work for once. Clearly, Barack Obama has presented the better plan proving he’s prepared for the duties involved. If you’re digging Sarah Palin because she’s cute, please get over it. If you think John McCain is the better choice because of all that Prisoner of War business, take a look at how many long lasting negative aspects he could have possibly taken away from that experience and tell me that won’t affect his judgement in the White House.

Now please get out to vote tomorrow and call your friends to make sure they know where they are registered. We can’t afford to have excuses on Wednesday morning. The future of our country, us, and our children ultimately depend on our ability to think critically and choose logically tomorrow.

Thanks and we hope to see you out this week at one of the Lif performances. The new album is crazy!
