Always X Re:Dephonition

Posted by Sonny James under Artists, DJs, Videos

I just came across this video from Muhsinah. Figured I’d share it.  It’s called Always and it rocks.  Good music…

Tomorrow, I’ll be performing alongside Bahamadia @ Mar Bar at the SPREAD, Benefit for the Philly AIDS Fund. Other performers include Ethel Cee, TuPhace, Hustle Simmons, Invincible, Zap & Castro, and more. AIDS has continued to take so many lives, I feel it’s a must to do my part to assist those who need treatment, bring further awareness of it’s impact, and try to get closer to a vaccine for this awful disease. That’s what the Philly AIDS Fund is all about. My condolences go out to all of you who have lost people who are close to you as a result of AIDS complications. We intend to celebrate their lives this week and look towards a future without the disease.

Saturday, I’ll be performing with Mr. Lif @ Johnny Brenda’s for the Dephonic album release party. Lif has been touring with Willie Evans Jr., Chali 2na, and Gift of Gab during the Fall and I’m looking forward to jumping back on stage with the homie.

My man, Scheme Richards will be holding down the Walnut Room for me on Saturday since I won’t be able to make it over in time following the Lif performance. WR folks, I should see y’all next week.  Also me and Scheme will be rocking together on New Year’s Eve @ WR.  More details on that soon to follow…

Do What I Believe

Posted by Sonny James under Artists, DJs

A few months ago during a day off from the I Heard It Today tour, Mr. Lif and I stopped by Statik Selektah’s Brooklyn studio to chop it up and listen to some beats.  During our visit there, he was telling us how far along he was with his Pre Game EP project and how much he wanted to do a record with Bahamadia for it.  Of course, since I’ve been working Bahamadia for years now and Statik Selektah has been murdering the game for the past few years, it was easy to get the word back to her and try to make it happen.  Part of the reason Statik Selektah is widely known is because he is amazingly consistent, makes solid hip-hop tracks for the traditional fans and purists, and can turn his projects around really fast.  That being said, the homie got right on it, sent a beat, we recorded the vocals, sent them back and a mix was ready within days.  This guy’s work ethic is no joke.  So here is the finished product for the song, Do What I Believe.  I can’t wait to hear the rest of the project as it features Talib Kweli, Truck North, Skyzoo, Joe Scudda and others.
