I Wanna Know x They Like Me, They Really Like Me…

Sup y’all.

A couple weeks ago, that is, the last time I could afford a free minute to post here, I was preparing for the Junior Music Executive Panel Discussion with many other established folks in the music industry. It was an interesting and informative discussion that took place. Aside from the surprise of Jimmy “J.J.” Walker showing up and receiving an award for his contributions to Black television, I was completely shocked and moved when I too received an award from the BEMA (Black Entertainment & Music Association) for my contributions to Philly’s music and nightlife scene. Much love and respect to them for the honor and to the folks there who recommended I receive the award this year. Grinding does pay off eventually and small tokens of appreciation make the tough times worth it even more.

BEMA Award

Now as we gear up for the holiday and a stomach full of wholesome, home cooked meals, let’s not forget those who cannot be here with us.  There is too much to be grateful for to stay angry at people who’ve wronged us, let us down or just simply didn’t see the world the way we see it. Let’s appreciate every person and blessing we have in our lives and stay empowered to make some real progress in 2010 both personally and professionally.

Finally, on a lighter note, check out my homies, Foreign Exchange in their latest video, I Wanna Know.  There are some familar Philly faces in the video including my homie Zarinah.

I Would Have Killed This!

Writing by Sonny James on Thursday, 5 of November , 2009 at 3:12 pm

Self Scientific has been one of many of my favorite hip hop groups from the West Coast. DJ Khalil and Chace Infinite always bring some quality music on their projects for me to ride in the car to. This past week, they released a project called “I Would Have Killed This!” It’s a collection of DJ Khalil’s beats for other artists in which Chace did his own songs over them as if they were released as Self Scientific songs. New hooks, new concepts, etc. Definitely worthy of a listen.
