Tonight, catch me and Lil’ Dave with the Soul Controllers from DC + Joy Jones (LA) at Tabaq Bistro. We haven’t rocked with the Soul Ceez in a minute so this party is long overdue. Not to mention it’s their 18th Anniversary tonight. The space is limited so get there early. It’s gonna be off the chain.
These dudes are from Africa and rhyme better than most of our favorite artists in America. They’re also on the upcoming Illvibe project. Sweet (c) Jay-Z
Tomorrow night, we do a party with a purpose. Lady Alma, me, and others will be rocking at the Kenny Caldwell Scholarship Fundraiser. There will be free food served. The festivities begin at 8pm and donations are strongly recommended until 11pm. Then we get into our usual Walnut Room business. Hope to see y’all out. Thanks for the support.
Also a big thank you to all of the regular listeners of our radio shows. This week, The Sure Shot Show rose to the #3 spot on Podomatic’s top 50 list of Movers & Shakers worldwide. We’re going on 10 years of The Sure Shot soon and it’s great to know y’all are still out there listening. The support is appreciated.
Last, my homies Phonte and Muhsinah were in town with Nicolay recently shooting their latest video from Leave It All Behind and I went to hang out at the shoot for a bit.
In fact, here’s a photo from the shoot, courtesy of Titi Carie.
And here’s their previous video for House of Cards. Beautiful song and perfect video to match it. Peep.
Tonight, if you’re in New York or can make the trip to New York, it will a worthy cause for you to make it out to Santos Party House. Kon of the world renown crate digging DJ duo, Kon & Amir has been in the hospital and on bedrest for months now with bloodclots and fluid in his lungs, among other serious life threatening symptoms. As I have also experienced many times, being a DJ can get you many fringe benefits in and outside the club. However, in the hospital, they don’t give a damn if you’re not insured. Hence, Kon was forced out of the hospital due to a rising bill although he is still in terrible condition. The top dogs of the DJ community in NY are playing a benefit tonight in order to lend some assistance and help Kon get back on his feet and back behind the turntables. I plan to support and you should to if you can.
A couple of weeks back, I attended an intimate event in Chocolate City in which N’Dambi performed and also did a Q&A while promoting her new album which drops on October 6th. It was great to see so many faces out, still, to promote soul music that is honest. There were a bunch of other artists in the house to hear her do her thing as well. Below here is a photo taken of many of the artists who stuck around til the end of the night. (Courtesy of Lil’ Soso Productions)
I came across this dude Hal Linton a couple weeks back when Jaguar had him open for a couple gigs for her recently in Philly. As much as I hate comparing artists, the best way I can describe him is to say he’s a mix between D’Angelo, Bilal, and Raphael Saadiq. 3 of my favorite artists in the realm of soul. Which means, I’ll definitely be copping Hal’s record when it drops on Motown in 2010. I had to share it before Hal Mania starts. Check him out.
