The BOOM! This Friday!

Posted by Sonny James under Philly, Videos

This past couple of days in Philly has been a lot of fun.  Walnut Room felt real good and we kept the vibe going til the very end of the party.  Mark De Clive Lowe and Lady Alma tore things down at The Sundae Party. It was great to see them rock together since I hadn’t seen either one of them perform in years. Last night Hezekiah and I opened for John Forte who was released from a Federal Prison 7 months ago after serving a portion of his 14 year sentence. For any of you who can’t remember why that name sounds so familar, John was a part of the Refugee Camp and helped out with the Fugees The Score album which sold over 18 million copies. He has a new project which just came out recently. His performance was acoustic and really ill. He still sounds just as good as he did years ago if not better. (To peep one of John’s latest interviews, click here.)

This Friday, The BODYROCK returns to the Arts Garage after a hiatus for a few months. I will be in the house for the later portion of the night since I’ll be at Fluid earlier DJing with Joey Blanco and DJ Aktive (SMC) for my man Bunmi’s birthday party. Bunmi has been the homie for years and was instrumental in producing The Duplex party we did at the Arts Garage a couple years back when the venue first opened. We’ll be going across the board musically all night and it’s gonna be a stone groove so don’t miss it.

Finally, did y’all know Swizz Beats is an ill mixed media artist?!?!?  I just found this out.  Word to all the other multi-talented folks out there.  I actually collect art from musicians. Gotta get my dollas up for one of his pieces.

Pics From Red Bull Afterparty

Posted by Sonny James under Philly, Videos

Here are some pics from this past Tuesday’s Tanya Morgan showcase/Red Bull Afterparty at Silk City.  It was a ton of fun.  One love to Phonte, Che Grand, Little Giant, and crew for inviting me to get down.  Thank you to everyone who stayed with me and sweated ya perms out til the end as well. Here are some flicks courtesy of Phrequency.com.

Also, check out this Day N Nite (Crookers RMX) Video by Kid Cudi.  I may be late on the video but this has been my joint for a minute so peep.

What’s up y’all.  Just a headsup.  You can find the homie Mr. Lif on MTV.com.  The video for The SUN is now on the site and will be running on the air shortly. Catch a peak of it right here.

Also, tonight, check out the homie and my big bro, Rich Medina at Fluid for the somewhat monthly Jump N Funk party. This party has traveled all over the country and we never know when it will return home to Philly for good so be sure to check it and bring your comfortable sneakers. You’ll be getting down all night. Word to big bird.
Finally, tomorrow, I’m back at The Walnut Room for my weekly situation. Be there and sweat with us. However, if you plan to request “Turn My Swag On” maybe, you should sit this one out. Thanks.

RBMA Afterparty Tonight! + More…

Posted by Sonny James under Philly

So here’s another reminder of the event happening tonight. The Red Bull Music Academy is a series of workshops put together by people who are in the business of music. They schedule the sessions all around the world a couple times a year and invite guest speakers to come and shed light on what they do to give attendees true insight on the entire process from the studio to the stage to the shelf. Past speakers included Madlib, Phonte, Leroy Burgess, A-Trak, DJ Red Alert and Chuck D. among dozens of others. They have done sessions in places like Rome, Capetown, and Melbourne, Australia. Overall it’s a great opportunity for independent artists looking to get their foot further in the door, learn from people actually making it happen, and travel in the process.

Yearly, Red Bull conducts info sessions to give potential attendees a piece of the experience on a local basis. Tonight’s event is an after party for that info session.

Info Session Flyer

If you are an aspiring artist, producer, or DJ in Philly who is trying to take it to the next level, you don’t want to miss this session.  The after party flyer is in my previous blog update. I can’t wait to see y’all out. It is becoming rare to have hip-hop shows in Philly that are worth coming out to so I’m looking forward to it.

Also, if you’re on my site, you may notice the button to the right of this update with the little Sonny James character throwing around mixtapes. If you click on it, it will direct you to my first on-line store. I have a couple CDs available there and as of now that’s about it but of course, I’ll be expanding on the inventory within the next couple of weeks. I’ll officially be starting the Mr. Sonny James merchandise campaign. You’ll only be able to get it from here so keep checking back for new items.

Finally, the newest episode of The Difference is now available and features a mix of joints from the past and present, courtesy of ya boy. I hope you dig it.
