It doesn’t even feel like holiday season to me. Maybe it’s because very few people in my world are going crazy at the mall or packing themselves into the grocery store for X-Mas dinner items or hanging extravagant lights in my neighborhood. Just feels like any other time of year. Maybe if I worked a regular job and had off for a few days during this season, I’d have more excitement.
Either way 2009 will be here in one week exactly. What can I say about 2008 that hasn’t been said about any other year? Well I had the pleasure of touring half the year, visiting Africa for the first time and then a second time within a few months, rocking all over Europe with Shape of Broad Minds, running to catch numerous flights with Bahamadia, Jaguar Wright, and Hezekiah on the Philly Sounds Tour, Studying abroad in Spain, meanwhile destroying C3 Bar in Barcelona and playing at Back to Basics twice alongside King Britt, Dozia, Rich Medina, and a bunch of amazing musicians. I also had the delight of seeing my son improve a great deal in school and grow further into his personality which becomes more like me everyday. Many new subscribers got hip to the work we’ve put in on both The Difference and The Sure Shot radio shows. Me and my crew were proud to host King Britt, Cosmo Baker, DJ Ultraviolet, and other special guest DJs at The BODYROCK this year. What better way to end the year off the year then having DJ Excel join us as our guest for the BODYROCK Holiday Spectacular. This man’s ability to mix is incredible. His sensibility and style as a DJ has been crafted as a long time member of the Scratch Mekaniks and a staple on commercial radio over the years. He has toured with Busta Rhymes and rocked celebrity parties all over. I know he’s going to kill it so don’t miss it this Saturday. It’s an Ex-Mas Celebration with the Illvibe Collective.

Then on New Year’s Eve, for those that have been inquiring, I’ve decided to play at Patou in Old City. I’ve never played in this room before but I know it will be a stone groove. The price may be a little steep for some of you, especially after buying your family stuff for the holidays but the bar will be open all night long and the food will on as well. Plus musically, it will be worth it. Mad fun. Send me a shout if you’re coming at djstatikmusic@gmail.com.

One love to Ian and the family for having me at their art gallery opening although the blizzard nearly blew me away trying to get there. Looking forward to next time. Also big up to Gravy who held down microphone duties at the Walnut Room this past Saturday. It’s been a while since we rocked like that together. It was a very different crowd than our normal Saturday folks because of the holidays and pub crawl business but we still had a lot of fun. Let’s keep rock shockin. I’ll try to update again before New Year’s but in case I don’t get the chance. Happy New Year and I hope you’ll be creating a life of prosperity and abundance in the coming year.
Respect

Sup folks?
I’m lovin Philly right about now. The WR has been poppin with a capital P. Weekly. You know the drilly. Stop through and get sweaty with the regulars. Those of you who made it to Back To Basics the other night know that me and Rich beat the turntables like they were eggs in the morning. Man what a night! I will never attempt to drink 10 shots of Tequila on an empty stomach again. Trust me. The aftermath consumed the entire next day unfortunately. I did manage to crawl out of bed long enough to catch Cadillac Records. If you haven’t seen that movie yet, make sure you peep it before it leaves the theatre.
Today, as long as the snow holds out long enough, I’ll be playing a little art soiree for a law firm in Jersey City. If it wasn’t private, I’d disclose all the details and say the more the merrier. Then I’ll be back to my weekly shenanigans at the Walnut Room.
So as we close out 2008, it looks like I’ll be bringing in the New Year at Patou in Old City. I’m sure it will be quite an experience. It will be the first Old City NYE I think I’ve participated in in many years. Once I know the full details, I’ll post em.
For now, I can tell you that my man, my mellow, DJ Excel (SMC) will be guest DJing with us at The BODYROCK a couple nights prior on December 27th (a Saturday this month) Sorry for the confusion but there is a bit of conflict with the venue this month. I’m sure he will kill it. He consistently does. ill! Mekaniks biatch.
There are also some very special dates coming up in other cities in which I can’t discuss until details are finalized. I’ve been couped up in the studio and in the same 30 block radius, I’m about ready to get back on a plane and see some new faces. Will def keep y’all posted. For now. tah tah. WTF does that mean anyway???
Holla
Also, here’s some pics from Back To Basics and Saturdays at Walnut to keep you warm while we brave the frigid wind on the east coast.
Did I mention Twitteris addictive, especially when you have it on your blackberry?

And by that, I don’t mean black on the outside and white on the inside.
I really mean it’s freaking COLD!!
Is it really necessary for me to not be able to catch a breathe because the cold wind is hogging all my oxygen? Apparently it is on the east coast right now. 26 Degrees right now. WTF. The furry flaps on my Phillies cap feel so right at this moment.
This week was a lot of fun. Thanks to all the folks who’ve been braving the cold and snow flurries to kick it with me. Waajeed came through a load of exclusives and Invincible destroyed the mic at Fluid on Thursday. Ethel Cee and UV did their thing thing and Reef had me crackin up as we drank more and more Belvedere. Big shout to everyone who made it out foreal. Plus Saturday nights have been really fun at the Walnut Room. Backpackers, say what you must about the dresscode and the somewhat tightness at the door. All of my folks that come every week, leave sweaty and smiling every single week. I couldn’t ask for more. It’s truly an enjoyable experience every Saturday and I’m watching as the crowd gets more open minded with each DJ set. We gon keep rock shockin’. For my folks who haven’t come yet, stop sleepin. It’s nothing short of the usual illvibe business on the dancefloor. Finally, one love to the staff as well for having my back at all times. If you’re one of the folks who hold me down, you know what I mean by that. Big thanks foreal.
Tomorrow I will be playing at West Chester University for a Jamaican style holiday celebration. It’s my first experience with something like this, so it should be lots of fun. If you’re a WCU student and happen to read my blog, I’ll see you there.
Also, for anyone who was confused on Saturday and went to check me and Rich Medina in BK at Habana Outpost, I truly apologize. I got mad calls from people who thought I was in NYC on Saturday and I’m not sure how that happened really. I look forward to every opportunity I have to rock with Rich but this past week was reserved for my residency in Philly. I’ll keep y’all updated as to when I do make my next appearance up the highway. Always love in NYC. Aight, it’s supper time for me and man am I starvin like marvin. (whoever the hell that is…)
Back in the gym and it’s making my appetite crazier than usual.
