One Day Left Until Electric Soul!

Posted by Sonny James under Mixtapes, Philly

Here is another mix to get y’all hype for Electric Soul. All the dancers have confirmed that they’re coming out and I’m excited to see you all. Once again, this jam will be all about that funky electronic bizness to get everyone in the place moving. This is kind of like Illvibe’s answer to all the tight jeaned madness going on all over Philadelphia and the world.

DJ Skipmode takes you through some more tomfoolery with the last installment of the Electric Soul Warmup Mixes AVAILABLE RIGHT HERE!

Be prepared to dance in front of your computers. You can also burn these mixes in iTunes as one CD and ride out to it. It’s our way of saying, “Thanks for listening.”

See y’all tomorrow. Til then, Enjoy.

Holy Illvibe Radio Archives!

Posted by Sonny James under Uncategorized

It’s been a labor of love. Truly it has, but now you will have access to most of the classic episodes of the Sure Shot and the Difference once available only as Real Media streams which were eventually taken off of illvibe.net I’ve been flipping through various CD books and piles of Minidiscs and spent the past couple of days reposting episodes online. Unfortunately, the Podomatic server crashed a couple days ago and we lost a lot of files including pictures, audio, and elements of our design templates. This is what caused several shows to disappear or not play when you attempted to access them this week. The technical guys over there were a big help and worked it out quickly so now, it’s my pleasure to have many more archives available for you all including the 1st official episodes of both shows.

New Yorkers, I’ll be at Moe’s tonight acting a fool behind the turntables in Brooklyn from 10pm – 3am.
See y’all out.

Part 2 of the Electric Soul Exclusive Mix Giveaway

Posted by Sonny James under Mixtapes

Peace,

Last night I had the pleasure of checking out The Hump party in New York with Myles & DJ Lindsey. Great records came out from 1988 to 1998 and this party is an opportunity for the resident DJs and guests to showcase them all. Jack Davey was the guest DJ last night and impressed me with her selection and ability to mix. A lot of folks that are established celebrities in their own right but aren’t known for being DJs have a tendency to take gigs thinking it’ll be easy and can’t mix for shit. So it was good to hear her blends were nice. We then went to Rich Medina’s 7 Year Anniversary party at APT with Lord Sear. It was a great night. I haven’t danced that much in over a year! Thanks for providing the soundtrack my nizzles. The T-Shirts didn’t hurt things either!

On the subject of blends and soundtracks, yesterday, I posted Lil’ Dave’s Electric Soul Warmup.

Today you can download mine RIGHT HERE!

On A Cloud (Lil’ Dave’s Funky Sing Sing Re-Edit) – PPP
Give Me Every Little Thing (Cajmere RMX) – The Juan Maclean

Melting Blue Ice (Seiji Mix) – Joakim Lone Octet

Tomorrow night, I will be back at Moe’s in Brooklyn’s Ft. Green neighborhood. (80 Lafayette).

Don’t miss it!

Mixtape Archive Post #9

Posted by Sonny James under Mixtapes

I’m learning a lot about my health and how much of the back to back, in and out of town, barely eating & sleeping, routine my body can possibly take.

This past week was mad fun but did take it’s toll as I’m fighting yet another throat infection/flu type situation. I know, I know… I need a check up from the neck up.

From getting down in DC last Sunday and Monday with the Soul Controllers for the “In The Artists Studio with Phonte” events to the Philly DJ Day activities, to heading to West Chester to do a tribute to the 70s for the students, to the Freshout Media Canvas Clash/Campus Philly Outdoor Jumpoff (Thank God it didn’t rain!), to playing at the Walnut Room the same night (Happy Birthday Aja from Kindred), to driving to NYC to rock at Moe’s on Sunday, my body is over it. No wonder I can’t get any studio work done! :)

While in New York, I finally got the chance to cop my hard copy of Metropolis. And yes Janelle, I bought it. It’s one I felt I needed to put out the $ for even though I’ve been bumping it on both of my iPods for over a year. Finally some inspiration.

Speaking of inspiration, about a year and some change ago, I was supposed to accompany Dave Ghetto, Mystic, and Hezekiah on the “Love Life” European Tour. However, there were some issues with the budget and I opted not to go. Munch (DC) went in my place but what did accompany them was the mixtape they asked me to do for the tour. Enters Dave Ghetto’s New Word Order. The concept of the New Word Order was to create a proper bridge btwn a bunch of the like-minded artists who are already loosely affiliated through platforms such as the Beat Society, Break Bread Projects, Soulville, etc. This disc is the first in a series of discs entitled Word Domination featuring the music of Hezekiah, 84, Mystic, Stacy Epps, Dave Ghetto, and more. There are mad exclusives as well as some joints that have been officially released on vinyl. This mixtape was never circulated in the U.S. and there are more volumes coming in the future but for now enjoy volume one.
