BARACK THE VOTE!

Writing by Sonny James on Wednesday, 29 of October , 2008 at 11:23 am

Tonight, I join Hezekiah, Eric Roberson, Curt Chambers and a few others at SOBs for a last minute push for Barack Obama’s presidency. I’m not saying I hope he wins. Instead, I’m living into the future of a successful election for him and for this country.
The idea of John McCain and Sarah Palin being in charge makes me think thoughts I’d rather not think so let’s keep our perspective positive on this…

This Friday, is The nearly 8 year running BODYROCK party presented by my crew, Illvibe Collective. We will have as a guest, none other than Cosmo Baker, the “International DJ Sensation”. (ha! you have to sound like you’re introducing James Brown when you say that) He’s the dude behind The Remedy in Philly and The Rub in New York. Point blank; it’ll be madness. I’m counting on it.

Next week (Election Week), I’m back on the road with Mr. Lif doing some shows. Dates are posted at my Myspace Page.

Oh, and why didn’t I know about this guy until Ant B. turned me onto his podcast this week?

Hilarious straight talk!

Enjoy the day and week.

Paz

According to The Whispers…

The Beat Goes On…

As we prepare for next week’s BODYROCK Halloween Rubstravaganza with our homie and guest DJ Cosmo Baker, let me remind you how important this man is to Philadelphia.

Him and Rich Medina held down over 7 years of weekly madness at Fluid doing the Remedy party in which they hosted everyone from DJs like Jazzy Jeff and Prince Paul to Emcees like Slum Village and Pharoahe Monch meanwhile keeping the vibe consistently fresh and pushing the musical envelope. Weekly!!! That’s rare. Then he moved on from The Remedy and rocked rooms like the 700 club for the younger audience consisting of b-boys & b-girls, thug types, and bike messengers, and keeping everyone grooving. Then he moved to Brooklyn, teamed up with DJ Eleven and DJ Ayers, and started the now legendary Rub party which has, at this point, toured all over the world. He just came off the Redman tour, rocking all over Europe, Japan, China, and the States. To put it short, this dude knows what he’s doing behind a set of turntables. I can’t wait. Every time Cosmo gets on, there’s some straight up silliness going on.

Now that you’re sold, here’s a recap from The Hump in NYC last night. First off, it is always a pleasure to play records with Myles and Lindsey. They’re my favorite couple in New York. They know their tunes too. I hadn’t heard some of those joints in a long ass time. Jay Jung from the Elite Camp showed his butt in the booth and it was great to see Niko and Unkle Chip from Staple out supporting last night as well. One love to Asya, Jackie, Waajeed, Rita, Drew, Anita, Erin, Shagari, and a host of familiar faces who came through as well. I heart New York foreal*

Statik is Humping Around…

Writing by Sonny James on Wednesday, 22 of October , 2008 at 9:00 am

Sup folks.

Great weekend. Congratulations to Raw Talent for a successful Breakin Jam on Saturday. The CHA/Springside Homecoming was mad fun as well as The Walnut Room. Everyone had a smile on their face on Saturday. Truthfully I couldn’t ask for more.

I have to mention that my mellow Kariem from Freekugly does really fresh tattoos for reasonable prices. Hollar at him here for some fresh ink. I wasn’t into tats for a long time but this cat has me hooked. Watch how serious it gets!

Other than that, I’m at The Hump party in New York tonight with Jay Jung, Myles, and DJ Lindsey. This is the jam where we play all the fresh jams from 1988 – 1998. You’ll be like “Oh Sh!t that’s the jam!”

And of course, more mixtapes coming soon. It takes time to upload and have the CD art looking proper for y’all and I haven’t had a minute to rest so please forgive me.

To all my CMJ folks, I’ll see you out tonight.

SONNY JAMES NONSTOP!

Writing by Sonny James on Friday, 17 of October , 2008 at 10:50 am

Well first off, I’d be ahead of myself if I didn’t give a special Thank You shout out to all the folks who came and rocked with Lil’ Dave, Skipmode, and myself at Electric Soul the other night. I was happy to have my entire crew in the house for the launch of the party. The Phillies and Barack Obama kept some people indoors and we understood that going in. Therefore when we had a nice turnout we were thrilled to say the least. The dance energy in there was very nice and our 4 turntable setup made it official. Now let’s keep it growing.

Tomorrow, we get down at um, “The Get Down!” @ CEC. Dancers, come early as I’m going on first. Then Skeme Richards & Grand Wizzard Rasheen will be giving y’all the ultimate workout as I head over to rock the 2008 Springside Academy Homecoming Party.
My young mellow, DJ Phsh will be holding it down at The Walnut Room until I get there. Then business as usual there. Saturdays have been pretty fun over there aside from random requests here and there for Journey and shit. WTF. The regulars know how we do.

Phillee Blunt will be sitting in for me at Moe’s in Brooklyn. If you’re in the area, go check him. Last Saturday was mad fun in Ft. Green and I know this week will be no different.

Also, New York, I will be in the place on Sunday night with Hezekiah, Oh No, Roc C. and a bunch of other folks for the Roc C. USA Tour at the Knitting Factory.

And as a side note; big up to the young homie DJ Lean Wit It who I hear killed it at the Lincoln Homecoming the other night. Glad to see the up and comers taking the DJ craft as serious as a heart attack!

Finally, be sure to download The Sure Shot and The Difference episode archives. Once again we’ve reached our quota for space so the re-runs now available will be replaced within the next week or so. DON’T MISS OUT!

I will see you out this weekend somewhere! Be safe and enjoy the appropriate temperatured Autumn, finally!

One Love.
