What A Way To Celebrate Your Friggin Birthday!

What a weekend! It started with me and my lady hitting up the local sneaker shops for some flavors. A bunch of items I’ve been searching for for over a year got purchased. Hehehe. We had a ton of errands to run so we got an early start. In the afternoon, I grabbed lunch to go at Saad’s in West Philly, picked up Lil’ Dave and got on the road. Made a quick stop in Jersey to grab some beverages for the Saturday BYOB situation, fought rush hour traffic for the next 5 hours and made it through the pouring rain to Brooklyn just in time to set up at Frank White’s Café. I like the intimate spot. It’s so comfortable, it feels like I’m in my Grandparents living room waiting for lemonade and Gingersnaps. A bunch of my friends came in from out of town to wish me a happy birthday as me and Lil’ Dave took turns providing the groove. We were celebrating my birthday and Soul One’s birthday that night. Around 12am, the folks who run the lounge asked me and Soul to come and have a seat. I was curious as to what was happening as it appeared that we were gonna be the center of attention and everyone was waiting for some festivities to begin. Then out of nowhere, Dave drops “The Whisper Song” and a young lady walks out and jumps on my lap. She was singing Opera (very well I might add) and giving me and Soul a Burlesque show. I was a little confused at first but enjoyed it overall. Plus, my girl had the nerve to videotape the whole thing.
The next day, we slept late in Fort Green to make up for the lack of rest we had all week,. We tried to shake off the alcohol from the night before but felt a little sick and ended up staying in the majority of the day other than stepping out to have a late brunch. By the time 10pm came, I was ready to eat again. We ran over to Habana Outpost and met my man Phsh who just got off the train and ate my favorite Mexican corn in the world.
Then it was time to head over to Atlantic Avenue where Veronica and a bunch of my favorite faces in New York were celebrating her Birthday and mine. The loft was amazing and so was the energy in the room. OP! was killing it when I came in and then Scribe got on and destroyed it as well. By the time I got to DJ I had a hard 3-hour hard on. (figuratively speaking of course) I had so much rocking the set and seeing everyone enjoying themselves. Seeing all of my friends I hadn’t seen in so long dancing and singing with so much joy was my greatest birthday gift. Stimulus finished out the night with his first DJ set since he had a major life changing operation and everyone was so happy to hear him back at it. He hasn’t missed a beat!
Sunday, Phillee Blunt and my long time homeboy Jeff came out and we ate brunch at one of my regular BK spots. We had plenty of laughs that afternoon and got a chance to really catch up for the first time in years. We relaxed for a few hours and then went to dinner. What I assumed was that we were going to a nice restaurant. My friends know how I am about a good meal. What I didn’t know was that my man Drew and my girl had been planning this dinner for weeks! So I was taking my time getting ready and Drew was secretly pulling his hair out. So we stopped to grab some more beverages (BYOB) then headed to the nice little intimate spot. The customer service was amazing and so was the music but nothing could compare to that food! Damn! It may have been the best meal I’ve ever had. So as we’re enjoying it all for a few hours everyone at the table is looking at their watches and checking their phones as if someone should be showing up any minute now. And I was cluelessly enjoying the meal and drinks with some of the people that are closest to me. Then suddenly, my man Bosco34 from Houston and his wife walk in and I was floored. I would have expected Arsenio Hall to walk in before I would have expected these two. It was quite a surprise. Bosco’s birthday is the day before mine so it was planned that we would have dinner that day together and neither of us had a clue about it. It was great. We all had so much fun over the weekend and I got to celebrate 3 days in a row, each day in conjunction with one of my close friends in addition to seeing dozens of people I truly love and respect. It was a perfect weekend. Thanks to everyone involved with making it spectacular. And another extra special Thanks to Veronica, Soul One, Drew, Anita, Rita, Bosco, and Tessa for the time invested and planning to make it all come together perfectly. I was speechless until this moment… Now part 2 of the birthday festivities will take place in Philly next week since some of my close friends from Philly and DC wasn’t able to get on the turnpike due to other obligations. I love my life!
