Thank You Mike!

I don’t really know what to say about the world losing Michael Jackson. Still trying to get it together. I’ve overheard and even talked to mad people who have said that they might only be sad if this was like 20 years ago. I guess that’s just the world we live in. Hot today, irrelevant tomorrow. In my world, however, Michael’s contribution to entertainment should not and cannot be underestimated. I read recently that he sold over 750 million records worldwide which is unheard of. The guy is in the Guiness Museum of World Records for his sales history. Simply an amazing accomplishment from an amazing humanitarian. It’s so sad, to me, that the money starved people who brought allegations against him in the 90s contributed to tarnishing his reputation as the best to ever grace the stage. Most of the children of today will only see MJ as the freak that the media chewed up and spit out in their rampage for an interesting story. I’m even more saddened by the fact that he was never able to make his official comeback and reclaim his thrown in the presence of todays popstars who have all been inspired by and have straight up thieved his keys to showmanship. Regardless of how much the media negatively highlights the lifestyle he afforded and chose for himself in which most of us would immediately judge and call freakish or strange, I will forever remember how much Michael has touched my soul with his music, moves, and work ethic. No artist has inspired me more than Mike to get into the business of music from a young age and therefore Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, and Invincible live on forever inside me. Thank you Michael for the gifts you gave me without ever having to meet me. I hope you finally rest in peace bro.

Whew…
Now that I’ve gotten some of the weight off my heart, on to what’s good this weekend. Today and Sunday I will be holding down the main stage at the Welcome America event in Philly at Penn’s Landing. Come by and hollar at the kid. Tomorrow night, we rock shock at The Walnut Room and this one is an extra special Saturday night as we celebrate the birthday of my one and only sister. For those of you who know me well, you know my sister is the reason I got into hip-hop at 5 or 6 years old. She has encouraged every dream I’ve ever had and went to bat for me anytime any person anywhere had a negative word to say about me. If you try me, she’s there to throw the first punch and for her support and love, I am humbled and grateful. This is the one party I would fly back from anywhere in the world to DJ at. I hope to see plenty of friends and family there to get down with us and have and drink with me and my best friend, Jonelle Alicia. Mad fun this weekend y’all. Let’s get it!
