Weekend @ Ithaca

Posted by Sonny James under Travel

Remember Weekend at Bernie’s? That movie was so funny in a weird way.

I may have to download that just for a few cheap laughs. Anyhow, this past weekend, I took a road trip with Hezekiah, Dave Ghetto, and my man Marc to Ithaca College.

I haven’t been upstate in New York for a few years so I didn’t really have any idea what I was getting myself into. Before we left, I was DJing at my nephew’s private school dance which was fun. Those kids really get excited for parties. Some of the faculty did too. But nonetheless, we hit the road at about 11 at night and by 1:30am we were sitting on the side of the road with a flat. Not a big deal. Changed the flat in the rain (in the middle of the woods, btw) and kept it moving. 35-40 miles later, the spare goes flat too. So now we’re just outside of Allentown waiting for a tow truck. 2 hours later, we’re on our way to Allentown where we will have to wait for Pep Boys to open at 7:30am. We go to have a meal at the local diner where our dialogue is filled with nearly delirious commentary. Dave Ghetto should be a comedian. lol To make a long story about an agonizing long night short, we didn’t make it to Binghamton (where our hotel was) until 12:30pm. We crashed for a couple hours, scarfed some Papa John’s and hit the road for Ithaca to do what we found out was a Frat Party. I thought it was a regular college gig where people will be confused and waiting for us to perform “This is Why I’m Hot.” It was actually a Frat Party like the movies fully equipped with all the decadence you would expect from a typical Frat House Party and more. And it was actually one of the more fulfilling gigs I’ve had since I was in College myself. Although, these days, I’m just a lot happier which makes me not wig out when we have technical difficulties. And this night we had plenty. Shit was off the hook regardless. I love DJing for a room of people that are open and ready to hear something new. And big up to DJ Fuzzy Duck, Drew, all the students of Cornell and Ithaca for showing us Philly cats a good time.
