A great Philadelphia moment happened this week as I went and checked Mike Nyce at Back 2 Basics the other night and he was rocking it! By the time, I come back to guest DJ in December, I’ll be all over my A Game. Believe that!
Inspiration
This weekend, I will be DJing the Jam for Jess event at the Mandel Theatre.
Then I’ll be headed to Atlanta to rock alongside Hezekiah, J-Live, and others. Right now I don’t have the venue info but I’ll post it as soon as I get it.
In other news related to Philadelphia, Cue Records, the “go to spot” for a bunch of us DJs and music lovers in the area, is closing after 10 years of business.
It’s a really sad reflection of the current state of the industry we were once proud to work in. I remember discovering Cue either the first or second week the shop was open. I found a copy of Daft Punk’s Homework album on wax and was instantly hooked on Cue as they had stuff I couldn’t find at 611 where I usually ended up looking at least once a week while DJing in college.
We will miss it but I’m sure Botany 500 will have another endeavor for us to enjoy in the near future. It will no doubt go on the list of other spots missed in Philly like Crimson Moon, Willamina’s, and Aqualounge. Philly, much like hip-hop, just ain’t what it used to be…
